UK Tribe: Sports Junkie because I have a strong interest in sports. I train for a club 5 times a week I improve on speed, endurance and stamina. I live actively and I am passionate about the sport I partake in, Swimming. I dedicate my time and put hours into my performance to achieve a high standard of skill and technique. I socialise with members of this tribe, i.e. members of the same club and people outside of my specific field of sport. I use local facilities effectively and regularly. I use the local leisure centre facilities to improve my overall fitness and use the swimming pool available for personal training for 2 hours, 5 times a week. Additionally, I download applications due to the advancement in technology to allow me t keep track of my fitness and whether I am achieving a high fitness level and a balanced diet.

Similarities to media figures:

Examples of media figures that I can relate to include:

  • Michael Jordan – I believe that I share a similarity with this individual because we both have an interest in sport but we never give up when the going gets tough. Michael Jordan has faced defeat many times and has overcome these by grafting and working hard to improve his overall performance to the best of his ability. I too work to the best of my ability in order to get positive results. If I don’t succeed, I don’t’ give up. I try and try again to improve the standard of my sporting lifestyle and my working life.

  • Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson – The creator of DC Comics. I keep this interest secret and personal but I have a very strong interest in the DC universe. This ranges from comic books, to films based on DC characters and purchasing console games that revolve around the DC franchise. I would be more than happy to sit in a cinema and watch a film that is based on a character of DC Comics.

  • Bill Gates – I would say that I do have similarities to the chairman of Microsoft because we both share interest in Information Technology and Computing. Microsoft software is the main method that I look to if I want to produce a piece of work.

  • James May – BBC presenter and car enthusiast. I believe that I am similar to this individual because we both have a wide knowledge of cars, manufacturers and models. Additionally, I would say that I dress similarly to him, boring bog-standard clothing that does not seem particularly interesting. Fortunately for me though, the clothes that I normally wear do not make me look like someone from the 1950s.

‘Consciously ‘model media figures?
I don’t believe that I model any media figures because I do not generally act, behave or dress like them. There are some occasions when I do try to mimic any comical moments from television programs and media websites but only so I can get a positive reaction from my peers. I personally believe that people should just be themselves and not model another individual. This is because I believe that anybody can achieve their potential and purpose by doing it themselves instead of trying to place themselves in someone else’s shoes.

Additionally I do not model a media figure in a sporting environment. I prefer to graft at my work to try and bring the best of my ability. Many professionals in my specific sporting field would have experienced the same what I’m going through now to get to the stage in which they are at. I am just myself trying to give everything my all and hope that a positive outcome appears.

  1. Really good work, Alex. It's interesting to see who you believe you share similarities with - but more interesting that you don't believe, however subconsciously, that you don't model yourself on anyone. You need to complete this task by visiting the UK Tribes website and considering which groups you belong to.
