5x5 Information
5 Favourite Films:
1.
The Dark
Knight - When Batman, Gordon and Harvey Dent launch an assault on
the mob, they let the clown out of the box, the Joker, bent on turning Gotham
on itself and bringing any heroes down to his level.
2.
Senna - A
documentary on Brazilian Formula One racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1
world championship three times before his death at age 34.
3.
Invictus - Nelson
Mandela, in his first term as the South African President, initiates a unique venture
to unite the apartheid-torn land: enlist the national rugby team on a mission
to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
4.
Dawn of the
Planet of the Apes - 10 Years after a disease that spread around the
globe, Apes who have started and survived the sickness has to go face-to-face
with a band of human survivors and a traitor who is hell bent on destroying
humans and apes galore.
5.
The Hobbit:
An Unexpected Journey - A reluctant hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, sets out to the
Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of dwarves to reclaim their mountain home
- and the gold within it - from the dragon Smaug.
5 Favourite Television Programmes:
1.
The Big
Bang Theory - The show is primarily centred on five characters living in
Pasadena, California: roommates Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper, both
physicists; Penny, a waitress and aspiring actress who lives across the hall;
and Leonard and Sheldon's equally geeky and socially awkward friends and
co-workers, mechanical engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Raj
Koothrappali. The geekiness and intellect of the four guys is contrasted for
comic effect with Penny's social skills and common sense.
2.
Mrs Brown’s
Boys - The titular character Agnes Brown is played by Brendan O'Carroll
himself, with several close friends and family members making up the rest of
the cast. In 2012 it won three television comedy awards.
3.
Family Guy - The
series centres on the Griffins, a family consisting of parents Peter and Lois;
their children Meg, Chris, and Stewie; and their anthropomorphic pet dog Brian.
The show is set in the fictional city of Quahog, Rhode Island, and exhibits
much of its humour in the form of cutaway gags that often lampoon American
culture.
4.
Mock the
Week - The game is influenced by improvised topical stand-up
comedy, with several rounds requiring players to deliver answers on unexpected
subjects on the spur of the moment.
5.
The
Inbetweeners - The show followed the life of suburban teenager Will
McKenzie (Simon Bird) and his three friends at the fictional Rudge Park
Comprehensive. The episodes involved situations of school bullying, broken
family life, indifferent school staff, male bonding, and largely failed sexual
encounters.
5 Favourite Comedians:
1. Milton Jones – “When my daughter was born she
had jaundice, she was small, round and yellow. We called her Melony.”
2.
Tim Vine – “My
friend told me he was going to a fancy dress party as an Italian island. I said
to him 'Don't be Sicily.”
3.
Frankie
Boyle – “Do you think George Bush actually knows who Gordon Brown
is? He probably just thinks Tony Blair's put on weight and had a mild stroke.”
4.
Hugh Dennis
– “Tired of a messy toolbox? Then you need the Abu Hamza multi-tool!
(From Mock the Week, when asked to describe what a television announcer is
unlikely to say.)”
5.
Russell
Howard – “Look at Anne Robinson. She looks like a fox in a wind
tunnel, not a good look.”
5 Favourite Television Characters:
1.
Sheldon
Cooper –“Scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes
lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock smashes scissors, scissors decapitates
lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as
it always has, rock crushes scissors.”
2.
Peter
Griffin – “[Dressed up as Spiderman climbing on a clothesline singing
to the tune of the Batman theme] Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na
Na Spiderman, Spiderman/ Here comes Peter on a clothesline but his name's not
Peter it is Spiderman, Spiderman/ Come on Lois let's get busy maybe right here
in the garden Spiderman, Spiderman.”
3.
Agnes Brown
– “So!!... You’ve had the shits for a week eh! Don’t be worrying… The
little feckers go back to school on Monday!”
4.
Homer
Simpson – “I saw this movie about a bus that had to SPEED around a
city, keeping its SPEED over fifty, and if its SPEED dropped, it would explode!
I think it was called "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down.”
5. Barney Stinson – “Think of me like Yoda, but
instead of being little and green I wear suits and I’m awesome. I’m your
bro—I’m Broda!”
5 Favourite Albums
1.
Mumford and
Sons-Babel – Calm, cool and
collected country-style music. Their folk-tinged, banjo-plucking austerity
indie has made them successful beyond their wildest dreams. (Key tracks include
– I Will Wait and Hopeless Wanderer).
2.
Madness-Total
Madness – Completely bonkers and wacky. Double tracked CD featuring
the movie videos to the tracks. Thus expressing the wittiness and madness of
the artists and songs. (Key tracks include – Baggy trousers and House of Fun).
3.
Robbie
Williams-In and Out of Consciousness – The greatest hits of the English singer-song writer. Featuring a
song with Take That’s Gary Barlow, Shame. (Key tracks include – Angels and
Shame).
4. Robbie Williams-Escapology – Williams has never been an innovative
artist, but previously his strong delivery and sly, ironic wit -- along with
savvy production and song writing - kept any faults at bay. Escapology shows
he's unable to avoid the trap. (Key tracks include – Come Undone and Something
Beautiful).
5.
Take
That-Progress – Album released
in response to Williams returning to the band. The album received positive
reviews, with most critics commending the influence of electronic music and
synthesizers. Including new songs with the additional members. (Key tracks
include – The Flood and Happy Now).
A very interesting 5x5. Good work Alex.
